The exchange of our students began in March 2017 when the first group of 15 students of Prva gimnazija visited Piacenza. In this exchange, an average of twenty students of the third grade of the language department take part each year, and the same number of guests from Italy participate. The exchange program takes place in two phases. In the first stage, students from Prva gimnazija travel to Piacenza, and in the second phase the students from the high school Melchiorre Gioia arrive in Sarajevo. During the six-day stay abroad, students attend school classes, they visit the cultural and historical sights of the cities, participate in various cultural and sport activities. Some of the main goals of this project are learning Italian in conversation with native speakers, acquainting the customs and culture of other people, getting to know and accepting diversity, fostering good friendships between Piacenza and Sarajevo. The uniqueness of this and similar projects is reflected in the fact that the students are accommodated in each other homes in order to connect better, to socialize, and exchange experiences.
